Why Layering Matters
Layering is the foundation of staying warm, dry, and comfortable on the water. Understanding how each layer works will help you adapt to changing conditions and get the most out of your kit.
Whether you’re out for a quick training session or a full-day sail, layering the right way can make or break your experience on the water.
The Basic Layers
There are 4 basic layers which are essential when out on the water.
The Base Layer manages moisture, wicking away sweat to keep you dry.
The Mid Layer is for insulation and retention of body heat ensuring you stay nice and warm.
The Top/Outer Layer provides protection from harsh wind and water while allowing for breathability.
Buoyancy aids are essential for safety and support and shouldn’t be overlooked when going out on the water.
